Our History
The Shaw Insurance Agency was established by the combining of (4) individual insurance agencies which date back to 1919 with the founding of the Howard L. Brown and Sons Agency. This agency originally specialized in personal property and casualty products and services. The Thomas Strok Insurance Agency, founded by Thomas Strok back in the mid 1940’s, was located in downtown Cleveland and specialized in the life and health markets. In 1958, this agency added personal and commercial lines property and casualty products. The Douglas Shaw Insurance Agency was established in 1993 with focus on specialty lines products and services.

Having now been consolidated into one agency, the ownership and management includes five licensed agents with a combined (85+) years of experience in the field. Doug and Janet Shaw acquired the Thomas Strok Insurance Agency in October 1981 and The Brown Insurance Agency in August of 1993. Jill Solar became part of the team in 1993 and the company recently welcomed the third generation with the addition of Casey and Evan Schrader to the licensed staff.

Jill has worked at the agency since 1993. Jill brings valuable knowledge and experience to the agency.
Janet Shaw
Vice President of the agency and the second generation of ownership, Janet brings passion to the office every day.
Doug Shaw
President of the agency and spouse to Vice President, Janet. Doug has been licensed for over 40-years.
